To manage your child's cough, first identify the cause (cold, allergies, asthma, or infection). Keep them hydrated, avoid allergens. Consult a doctor
before using medications, and follow prescribed plans for asthma or other conditions. If the cough persists or worsens, seek medical advice from a
pediatric pulmonologist for the best care and child may need further investigations.
How to Manage Cough in Children
The right delivery method for asthma medications is crucial for effective treatment. Inhalers (MDIs) used with proper technique work best
using with spacer and aerochamber. Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs) are for older children and may be difficult to use when having asthma attack.
Nebulizers are also been used. Oral medications, like leukotrienes or steroids, are used along with inhalers based on the control of the asthma.
Regular follow-up and compliance with the medicines are essential for managing asthma.
Asthma Medications Delivery
Method
Airway inflammation leads to asthma, making it hard for your child to breathe. Symptoms include wheezing, coughing, shortness of
breath, and chest tightness. Treatment involves regular preventive medications (e.g., inhaled steroids) to reduce inflammation and
reliever medications (e.g., Albuterol) as and when required for wheezy episodes/Flare Ups. A spacer or nebulizer (delivery methods) can
be used to deliver the medications appropriately. Avoiding triggers like allergens and smoke is key, and an asthma action plan with your
doctor is essential to prevent asthma attacks. With proper and regular treatment, children with asthma can lead active, healthy lives
with regular reviews with doctor.
Asthma Treatment and
Medications
Asthma in children causes symptoms like coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Diagnosis involves reviewing
medical history, a physical exam, spirometry (Lung Function Test), and peak flow monitoring. If you suspect asthma, consult a pediatric
pulmonologist for early diagnosis and management. With proper and regular treatment, children with asthma can lead active, healthy
lives with regular reviews with doctor.
Asthma in Children: Diagnosis
and symptoms
Parents play a vital role in managing asthma by understanding the condition, managing medications, monitoring symptoms, avoiding triggers, and
preparing for emergencies. Schools contribute by communicating with parents and healthcare providers, administering medications, managing
triggers, supporting physical activities, and following emergency protocols. Together, they ensure the child's asthma is well-managed.
Role of Parents and School in
Child’s Asthma
- Loud and Persistent Snoring: Sudden stop of snoring with rebound snoring could suggest sleep apnea.
- Pauses in Breathing: If the child stops breathing during sleep and then starts again with a gasp.
- Daytime Sleepiness: Feeling tired or irritable during the day may indicate poor sleep quality due to snoring.
- Difficulty in Concentration or Learning: Lack of restful sleep can affect a child’s ability to focus in school and overall growth of the child.

Lung Damage:

Nicotine Addiction:

What Every Parent Should Know About Vaping
A Growing Threat
Vaping is rapidly becoming the most common form of nicotine use among children
and teens. Sleek designs, fruity flavors, and misleading marketing make e-
cigarettes seem harmless—but they’re not.
